Hey buddy!
During the late 18th century, French society was divided into three categories:
1) 1st estate (i.e. Clergy) - It included the group of people who were associated with church matters.
2) 2nd estate (i.e. Nobility) - It included the persons who had high ranks in state administration. They also enjoyed feudal privileges.
3) 3rd estate - It comprised of big businessmen, merchants, court officials, lawyers, peasants and artisans, landless laborers.Only the members of the third estate had to pay taxes to the state. They formed majority of the total population.
The first two classes were exempted from paying taxes. They enjoyed privileges by birth.
I hope this will be helpful top you.
