The membranous labyrinth of the ear has three major regoins- vestibule, semicircular canals and cochlea.
- Each ear is divided into 3 parts- the outer ear, the middle ear and the inner ear.
- The outer ear extends from the external pinna, through the auditory canal into the tympanic membrane or ear drum. The middle ear consists of the ear ossicles- malleus, incus and stapes.
- The inner ear is filled with endolymph and consists of the bony and membranous labyrinths. The membranous labyrinth has a coiled portion called the cochlea, which joins with the middle ear through an oval window and a round window.
- The vestibular apparatus is a complex system composed of three semicircular canals which consist the saccule and utricle.
