Structure: Different plants have different requirements. Cactus requires soil structure which is different from what mangroves require.

Porosity: This determines the amount of water and air flowing through the soil.

Texture: Texture determines what the soil is made up of- this includes particles of different sizes, sand, silt, organic matter and so on.
