The two categories that make up the executive in our country are :

a. Political executive- It comprises of the elected members of the executive. They are the ministers who are elected by the people. The larger policy decisions of the government are taken by the political executive. It is not permanent in nature and is changed after a certain period of time through fresh mandate by the people by means of elections.


b. Permanent executive- It comprises of the bureaucracy or the civil servants who are appointed on the long term basis . It is permanent in nature and is tasked with implementing the policy decisions of the political executive.
