The two forms of oxygen found in the atmosphere are diatomic element Oxygen(O2) and triatomic Ozone(O3).
Oxygen:
Oxygen is one of the constituents of water and form about 21% of the air in the atmosphere. It is required for respiration by all the living organisms.
Oxygen enter the living world through respiration it oxidises the food materials and produces energy and carbon dioxide.
Ozone:
The Ozone is an allotrope of oxygen. It is a Blue gas with a pungent odour. It is highly poisonous to living things. It is present in significant amounts in the stratosphere.
The part of atmosphere which is rich in Ozone may be called Ozone Layer, ozonosphere, Ozone umbrella or Ozone shield.
The Ozone Layer is highly important as it filters out the harmful high energy ultraviolet radiations coming from the Sun . The high energy ultraviolet radiation split Ozone into molecular and atomic oxygen.
