Seasonal migration is common among the agricultural people. The two main reasons for migrating are:

1. During summer the agricultural people move to higher elevations where they can find more forage for their sheep or cattle. They also move to these regions in order to protect them from the summer heat.

2. Labourers move to another place to harvest the fruit or crops which need manual picking.

Shortage of agricultural land, debt, lack of local non-farm activities and the desire to earn more are some other reasons for migration.

The migration which takes place for a specific period of time and migrant returns back after some particular time period is called seasonal migration. Some of the common reasons for seasonal migration are:
1. Lack of farming areas:
Some areas have less fertile land which makes the survival of a farmer very difficult in that area. So farmers generally move to areas where the soil is more rich in minerals and essential nutrients.
2. Lack of Opportunities:
The rate of progress of all areas is not the same. Some areas are more advanced and prosperous as compared to others. So, people also migrate in search of better job or working opportunities. People with a desire of earning additional income also prefer seasonal migration.
