Anther mainly consist of 2 compartments which are termed as thecae and each theca contains 2 microsporangia.

  • There can be 1 or more theca. Theca are present adjacent to each other, connected by a tissue called connective. Pair of microsporangia can be found in theca. Microsporangia produces the microspores which are later known as pollen grains.
  • There are various types of Anther-
  1. Monothecal- 1 theca with 2 microsporangia
  2. Dithecal- It is classic type of anther, which have 2 thecae with 4 microsporangia.
  3. Pollinium- It is a rare form of dithecal anther in which all the pollen grains of adjacent thecae are fused together in a 1 single mass.
