what are the two species concept??
ANSWER⤵️
John Ray
he proposed the term and concept of species
to explain the species different concepts were proposed.
Biological concept of species:-
(1.) Ernst mayor (Darwin of 20th century) proposed the Biological concept of species.
- group of members, which interbreed naturally and produce fertile progeny is called biological species.
(2.) when species is determined on the basis of interbreeding then it is called biological
species.
(3.) this concept cannot be applied in case of prokaryotes ( mycoplasma, bacteria, BGA) because they do not produce by sexual reproduction.
Taxonomic concept of species:-
- when the species is determined on the basis of morphological characters then it is called as taxonomic species.
- a group of individuals are in fundamental morphological similarities is known as taxonomic species.
- this concept can explain species in case of eukaryotes plants and animals.
NOTE:-
since conventional taxonomic methods are not suitable to describe species in case of microbes like prokaryotes( bacteria, mycoplasma, BGA) etc hence many biochemical and biomolecular studies are used to identify them a species.
