Idioms are a set of words which are used to deduct a specific expression.

The two main features of idioms are:

1. They can not be used separately.

Such as we can not say "cats and dogs" because it literally means cats and dogs.

But if we say "it's raining cats and dogs" it will have a specific meaning.

2. They cuts short the rambling are joy to use.

It sounds better when one says " It's raining cats and dogs" rather than " It's raining heavily".
