As we know, that kinetic energy is the measure of temperature. When the temperature is increased, kinetic energy of the system also increases and vice versa.

Kinetic energy of the gases is highest, then the liquids and then the solids.

So, on heating, the kinetic energy starts to increase and solid state starts converting into liquid and then gaseous state.

And on cooling, the kinetic energy starts to decrease and gaseous state starts converting into liquid and then solid state.

Hence, the two ways are by heating or by cooling.
