What are the types of bees?
there are many types of bees like a honey bee, bumblebee, sweat bee, dasypoda, etc.
about honey bee
there are 3 types of honey bee
1. apis cerana indica ( Indian bee)
2. apis dorsata (rock bee)
3. apis florae (little bee)
the nest of the honey bee is known as bee hive.
honey bee lives in a colony. a colony of Italian bee normally has 1 queen and 40,000 to 100,000 workers.
Queen. the body size of the queen bee is much large than other castes of the bee of the colony. the queen is the mother of the colony.
she lays up to 2000 eggs every day of each season.
drone. it is haploid and fertile male. they are large in size than workers and are quite noisy.
workers. workers are diploid it is female and it can't reproduce. the size of workers is the smallest among the castes of the bee. workers live for 3 to 12 months. the function is change with age. during first half life workers are engaged in indoor duties as nurse bee, fanner bee, guard bee. during second half they perform outside duties as forager bees, scout bees. the worker been of a hive fall under 3 major groups.
1. scavenger bees. for the first 3 days, they clean the walls and floor of empty cells for reuse.
2. nurse bees. from 4th day each worker bee feeds the entire brood like a foster mother. by 7th day it start producing royal jelly, which is fed to the queen and further queen bees. nurse bee also performs guard duties.
3. foraging or field bees. they collect nectar, pollen and propolis. nectar is changed into honey in their crops.
