what are the types of dense connective tissue ? what are their functions in brief
Answers
dense connective tissue - 3 types
- dense regular
- dense irregular
- elastic connective tissue
dense regular:
The collagen fibres are parallely arranged. The major cell type present is fibroblasts. It withstands great tensile strength applied in one direction.
Location: between bone and muscle (tendons),between two bones (ligaments)
dense irregular:
The collagen fibres are irregularly arranged. The major cell type present is fibroblasts. It withstands tension applied from many directions and provides structural strength.
Location: skin (deeper regions of the dermis), periosteum, endosteum, pericardium, joint capsules, heart valves
elastic:
It contains high proportion of elastic fibres. It has the ability of extending and recoiling. It maintains the pulsative flow blood through arteries and recoil of lungs after inspiration.
Location: vocal cords, walls of arteries, trachea, bronchi, elastic ligaments present between vertebrae
