There are three types of neurons: Sensory, Motor and Interneurons.

  • A neutron or a nerve cell is the basic element of the Nervous System. Neurons transmit stimuli as electrical and chemical signals.
  • Sensory neurons are the type of nerve cells that get activated as a result of sensory input from the environment. For example -if we touch a hot object, then our sensory neurons send the signals to the brain.
  • Motor neurons are found in the spinal cord and are responsible for transmitting impulses from the spinal cord to the smooth muscle and in this way they control muscular movement in the body.
  • Interneurons are the neurons that connect the spinal motor and sensory nerve cells. These transfer signals between sensory and motor neurons as well as communicate among themselves.

Answer:

There are three major types of neurons: sensory neurons, motor neurons, and interneurons. All three have different functions, but the brain needs all of them to communicate effectively with the rest of the body (and vice versa).
