According to the Nature oxides are classified into two categories-
Simple oxide-
Oxides having metals in only one oxidation state .
Example-
Simple oxides are classified into four sub-categories.
- Acidic oxides- They are formed by reaction of non metals with oxygen.

- Basic oxides- Metals react with and forms basic oxides.
Example- → 2CaO
- Amphoteric oxides- Some elements forms oxides by reaction with which is amphoteric in nature.
Example- →
- Neutral oxide- Oxides which do not change pH of water when dissolved in it and neither behave as acid nor as base.
