Definition of Trackball:

  • Many notebook and laptop computers employ a trackball as a cursor control mechanism.
  • Typically, the trackball is placed in front of the keyboard, facing the user.

Uses of trackball:

  • The trackball functions essentially as an inverted mouse that revolves in a socket.
  • The user rolls the ball to move the cursor to the desired location on the screen.
  • To select desktop items or move the cursor for text entry, the user can press one of two buttons located close to the trackball that are identical to mouse buttons.
  • It provides the computer system with data and commands.
  • Similar to how we use a mouse, it is used to point items.
