Answer:
The usual topics of small talk are those related to weather, politics, visiting places, food, dress, TV serials, music / songs, films, latest readings, etc. Depending upon the mood and interest as reflected by the other person and of course, your expertise in the topic, you can go a little deeper in putting lead questions and engaging the other person in further discussions.
Casually put in few topics of interest one after another to find out the person’s liking.
Carry from there and switch to more deeper areas of the same topic.
Be a good listener.
Have eye contact.
Move your face down / lean to show you are interested.
Show excitement - by way of hand movements, facial signs, claps, etc.
Exclaim - Wow! Wonderful! Perfect!Beautiful! etc. in a conscious manner.
Avoid negatives.
