Here are some of them:
1) In 1956, Sinhala was made the official language by paying an Act.
2) The government preferred Sinhala applicants for university positions and government jobs.
3) Buddhism was provided state protection by the constitution.
This made Sri Lankan Tamils feel their language and culture and political rights was neglected by Buddhist Sinhala politicians. This led to the increase of feeling of hatred among them.
