ZEOLITES;

Zeolites are sodium aluminosilicate obtained when Few Si atoms in the three-dimensional network of SiO2 are replaced by aluminium atoms .
These how open structure of negatively charged amino silicate framework and are represented by the general Formula as ;
MX/n [Al O2 ][SiO2].mH2O .
The negative charge of aluminium silicate Framework is neutralized by the exchangeable cations of valence n .
Zeolites have honeycomb like structures these are widely used as catalyst in petrochemical industry for cracking of Hydrocarbons and in isomerization .
Hydrated zeolites are used as Ion exchangers in softning of hard water these are also used as molecular sieves to separate molecules of different sizes .
