what are thermosetting plastics
Answers
Answer:
Thermosetting plastics
Thermosetting plastics or thermosets are the type of plastics that are permanently 'set', once moulded into a shape. They do not melt on heating but if they are exposed to enough heat, they will crack and become charred. Common thermosetting plastics include bakelite, malamine epoxy resins, urea formaldehyde resin, polyurethane and silicons.
Thermosetting plastics are good electrical insulators and they resist fire and heat better than thermoplastics. Bakelite is used for making articles such as electrical plugs and sockets, electrical switches and handle of utensils while malamine is a versatile material. It resists fire and can tolerate heat better than other plastics. It is used for making floor tiles, kitchenwares and fabrics which resist fire.
