For testing any chemicals or vaccine , we require transgenic animals.

They are used to test vaccine whether they are safe on humans or not eg: polio vaccine were tested on transgenic mice

Transgenic animals are made to carry the genes, which make them more sensitive to the toxic substances than the nontransgenic ones. They are then exposed to toxic substances and effects are studied. This is known as toxicity/safety testing.
