Answer:

In music, a triad is a set of three notes that can be stacked vertically in thirds. The term "harmonic triad" was coined by Johannes Lippius in his Synopsis musicae novae. When stacked in thirds, notes produce triads.

- Concept by Dobereiner,

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

◈ Dobereiner gave this concept in Classification or arrangement of elements.

◈ He arranged the elements with similar properties in groups of three known as Triads. (Tri means three).

◈ According to Dobereiner, the atomic mass of central elenent is the average or the arithmetic mean of other two.

For example:

 \large{\bold{\red{lithium \:  \:  \:  \: sodium \:  \:  \:  \: potassium}}}

 \large{\sf{\mapsto{atomic \: mass \: of \: sodium}}} \\  \\  \large{\sf{=  \frac{atomic \: mass \: of \: lithium + atomic \: mass \: of \: potassium}{2} }} \\  \\  \large{\sf{= \frac{7 + 39}{2} }} \\  \\  \large{\sf{ = \boxed{ 23}(atomic \: mass \: of \: sodium)}}

Other examples of triads are

  • Sulphur, Selenium,Tellurium
  • Chlorine, Bromine, Iodine
  • Calcium,Strontium,Barium

◈ Limitations of Dobereiner classification

  1. Atomic masses of some elements are approx.same. Eg: Iron, cobalt, Nickel
  2. It was only restricted to some elements, That is nlt applicable to all, Hence it was discarded.
