    Consider the  following data :

Marks                    no: of students

0 - 10                          1
10 -20                         3
20 - 30                        8
30 -40                         15
40 - 50                        3

In this data , the upper limit of each  class the same as the lower limit of the succeeding case .Such a data is said to be continuous

Now lets take an example of non continuous data and see how is  it made continuous.

Marks                            No : of students
6 - 14                                      19
15 - 23                                     7
24 - 32                                     4
33 - 41                                     23
42 - 50                                     5

For making this data continuous , we subtract 0.5 from each lower limit , for example from 6 ,and add 0.5 each upper limit , for example adding 0.5 to 14.

The data will become in this form.

Mark                               No: of students
(class - limits )

5.5 - 14.5                              19
14.5 - 23.5                             7
23.5 - 32.5                             4
32.5 - 41.5                             23
41.5 - 50.5                             5

The new class limits obtained in this manner are called true class limits.
