》Surgical method- This includes vasectomy and tubectomy. In tubectomy, the fallopian tube of female reproductive system are sealed so that the eggs couldn't reach the uterus to be further fertilized by the sperm. While in Vasectomy, the vas deferens of the male reproductive system is either sealed or cut so as to prevent the sperm reaching urethra.

》Contraceptive devices- These includes devices such as condoms, diaphragm or oral pills. These are used to prevent the fertilization of eggs and sperm.

• Barrier methods
• Hormonal methods
• Use of intrauterine contraceptive devices ( IUDs)

Barrier Method : In the barrier methods of preventing pregnancy physical devices such of condoms, diagrams and cervical cap are used . It means these methods involve the use of physical devices that prevent sperms from meeting with the egg .

• Condom - It is made of latex ( a very thin rubber tube sheet ) in the form of a tube which is worn on the erect penis in males. It prevents the sperms from being ejaculated in the vagina .
• Diaphragm - It is in the form of a cap having a coil spring made of latex . It is fitted deep inside the vagina of a female. It prevents the entry of sperms into the uterus of the female.
• Cervical cap - It is in the form of a rubber nipple fitted over the cervix of a female .It also prevents the entry of sperms into the uterus of the female.

Hormonal methods - Various kinds of pills containing hormones have been prepared which prevent the release of egg from the ovary. This method works by changing the hormonal imbalance of the body so that eggs are not released from the the ovaries and fertilization cannot occur. These pills do not interfere with the menstrual cycle. As these pills change hormonal imbalance in the body, that can cause some side effects.
