What are vectors? Mention two diseases caused by vectors.
Answers
Vactor = In epidemiology, a disease vector is any agent which carries and transmits an infectious pathogen into another living organism; agents regarded as vectors are organisms, such as intermediate parasites or microbes. The first major discovery of a disease vector came from Ronald Ross on 20 August 1897
two diseases caused by vectors :-
1) Malaria (protozoan): Anopheles species of mosquito.
2) Lymphatic filariasis (nematode worm): Culex, Anopheles, Aedes species of mosquito.
Explanation:
A disease vector is any living organism that transmits an infectious disease to humans (or in agriculture to animals and plants).
Biological vectors, such as mosquitoes and ticks may carry pathogens that can multiply within their bodies and be delivered to new hosts, usually by biting. Mechanical vectors, such as flies can pick up infectious agents on the outside of their bodies and transmit them through physical contact.
some examples : malaria , dengue , etc
