A virus is a biological agent that reproduces inside the cells of living hosts.Since, they do not contain any enzymes for energy production, they invade the host's metabolic machinery to produce viral enzymes, viral proteins, etc.Antibiotics are ineffective against viral infections because viruses are so simple & they use their host's cell. But antiviral drugs work differently by interfering with the viral enzymes.
