Western Disturbances originate in the Mediterranean Sea and blow eastwards under the influence of jet stream. These westerly depressions are temperate cyclones. They provide winter rainfall to the parts of northern india. They also bring a slight rainfall of about 10 cm in the northern India.

They mainly blow over Punjab, Uttar Pradesh etc.
