Ground water level can be increased by ground water conservation and control use of water. Protect : trees, water sheds,lakes, ponds, deep drilling for water in coastal areas and water conservations.

Methods to increase water level $\implies$

• Plant more trees of local varieties or restore the denuded patches of natural forest.
• Stop indiscriminate drawing out of ground water through bore wells.
• Build check dams across rivers to retain more water in the river bed after the rainy season.
• Make it compulsory to provide for rain water holding ponds in new townships
• Encourage farmers to dig pits in the farms to hold rain water. This will sustain high level of moisture in the soil for a longer period.
• Encourage rain water harvesting to lessen dependence on natural water bodies.
