Answer:

Adsorption: Zeolites are used to adsorb a variety of materials. This includes applications in drying, purification, and separation. They can remove water to very low partial pressures and are very effective desiccants, with a capacity of up to more than 25% of their weight in water.

What is Zeolites?

A shape-selective catalyst having Honeycomb structure which permit only selective molecules.

Examples:

  • ZSM-5
  • Linde-A (synthetic)
  • Faujasite (natural)

Application of Zeolites:

  • Acts as water softener & selective absorbents.
  • Used as "ions-exchanger" in softening of hard water.
  • For cracking of Hydrocarbons & Isomerization.
