  • Alveoli are tiny sacs within our lungs that allow oxygen and carbondioxide to move between the lungs and bloodstream.
  • The function of alveoli is to assist in oxygen exchange throught he membranes of the small balloon like structures.

pleura

  • The Pleura are membranes of the thoracic cavity.
  • There are two pleura, the parietal and the visceral.
  • The parietal pleura lines the inner surface of the thoracic cavity and ribcage.
  • The visceral pleura line the lungs.

(al-VEE-oh-ly) Tiny air sacs at the end of the bronchioles (tiny branches of air tubes in the lungs). The alveoli are where the lungs and the blood exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide during the process of breathing in and breathing out.

PLEURA

(PLOOR-uh) A thin layer of tissue that covers the lungs and lines the interior wall of the chest cavity. It protects and cushions the lungs. This tissue secretes a small amount of fluid that acts as a lubricant, allowing the lungs to move smoothly in the chest cavity while breathing.
