Accommodation is the process by which the vertebrate eye changes optical power to maintain a clear image or focus on an object as its distance varies.
Hope it is helpful.

Answer :-

The ability of the eye to see far-off and nearby objects clearly by altering the focal length of the crystalline lens, is called power of accommodation.

This mechanism of the eye works in the following manner :-

For seeing nearby objects :-

When we try to see any nearby object, the ciliary muscles of our eyes contract. This leads to the increase in the thickness of the crystalline lens.

As a result, the focal length of the lens decreases in such a way that a clear and sharp image of the object is formed on the retina of the eyeball.

Thus, the nearby object is clearly seen by us.

For seeing distant objects :-

When we try to see any far-off object, the ciliary muscles of our eyes become relaxed and expand. This leads to the decrease in the thickness of the crystalline lens of the eyeball.

As a result, the focal length of the crystalline lens increases in such a way that all the parallel rays coming towards the eye, from the object are focused on the retina and a clear image of the object is formed on the retina of the eyeball.

Thus, the distant object is clearly seen by us.
