Initially the British came to India for trade only. Indian good had a huge demand in the European markey ,so the traders used to make big profit. They continued this trade quitely for almost a century without interfering in the political matters of India. But still they were observing India’s political situation.

They saw that though India being a large country politically it was weak and British saw this as a golden opportunity of ruling it and completely brought the nation under its dominance by 1818 defeating the mughals,Marathas, the nizam and later the Sikhs.
