Main features of the Indian National Movement 1942-1947 :

Sir Stafford Cripps came to India in March 1942 to talk to the Indian leaders. But talks broke down as Britishers were not willing to give complete independence.
As a result of this, Gandhiji gave forth the slogan ‘Quit India’. He demanded the immediate end of British rule in India.As an aftermath of above action, the Congress was banned and all important leaders were arrested, followed by nation-wide demonstrations.Shri Subhash Chandra Bose reorganised Indian National Army to liberate India.After the Second World War, the political climate of the world had changed. The old imperialist countries had weakened.There was great resentment against British rule at this time. Indians suffered in World War and three million people died in West Bengal’s Worst famine (1943).In February 1946, the British Govern­ment sent Cabinet Mission to India to hold discus­sions with Indian leaders regarding formation of Union of India.India achieved independence in 1947.
