It's not mandatory for a CA student to have a laptop. If you are in CPT or IPCC or Final then it may be useful for you. You can use ICAI's student LMS system for studies, view PDFs , podcasts, PPTs and videos related to your studies.

And it's mandatory when your are interested to learn something out of box.
