The polarity of a water molecule is uneven due to lack of uniform distribution of electron density. A water molecule consists of two atoms of hydrogen and one atom of oxygen. The two electrons of hydrogen form a covalent bond with two electrons of oxygen, leaving two electrons of oxygen un-shared. Now, the water has negative and positive charges both because of this electron combination between hydrogen and oxygen, thus making its polarity uneven.
