The refraction of the white light coming from the sun by falling in a water droplet left in the atmosphere after the rain, and then being dispersed into the band of 7 colours is called a rainbow.
The colours are dispersed due to the difference between their frequency and wavelengths.
This causes difference in the angle of incident and Hence changes the angle of reflection and therefore we can se 7 colours at different angles forming a rainbow.

The formation of a rainbow involves a series of physical phenomena - reflection, refraction, dispersion and total internal reflection. The occurence of each of these is due to the interaction of light with air and water and the boundaries between them. Enlarged view of diagram.
