A thermometer is used to measure temperature during fever. During fever, the mark of mercury increases according to the heat it receives with time and stops increasing when it doesn't note any change in temperature.
It is mainly inserted into the mouth below tongue, or below arm.
A thermometer has a mercury as a fluid inside it. It is a good conductor of heat and doesn't get stick to the wall of thermometer bulb.
