When an ore of mercury is heated into air for long time,the mercury oxide is produced and by further heating,this mercury oxide becomes pure mercury metal.
- In this process the ore of the mercury is cinnabar.
- Chemical reaction :
First phase - 2HgS + 3O2 -----> 2HgO + 2SO2
And,by the obtained HgO of the first phase.
Second phase - 2HgO ----> 2Hg + O2
