The play 'Merchant Of Venice' is one the most famous plays by William Shakespeare. In this particular act of the play; Portia who is disguised as Balthazar a young lawyer pleads to save the life of Antonio, her husband Bassanio's friend.Balthazar, after close observation of Shylock's deed, states that Shylock could take a pound of flesh from Antonio but even a drop of blood should not be shed as the deed only said a 'pound of flesh' and did not mention blood. This way Balthazar saved Antonio's life.
