The year of 1848 was a year of pauperism in France. There was widespread unemployment and shortage of food. During this time barricades were erected and Louis Phillippe was forced to flee. National Assembly declared France a republic. Also it granted suffrage to all males above 21 years and granted the right to work to the people. National Assembly also set up National workshops to provide employment. This was also known as the Liberal Revolution of 1848.
