Grandmother had never ever received any formal education as a young girl..she was married off at a tender age and was serving as the cook of the family since then...She had constantly felt the need to get education and since she wasn't educated herself, she could feel the importance of education much more than others,so she ensured that her children and grandchildren were never denied of proper education..
meanwhile she got deeply addicted to a story-kashi yatre which was appearing as a serial in the then weekly magazine-karmaveera....She always used to rely on her young granddaughter to read out the story to her since she herself could neither read nor write....one day her granddaughter was away attending a marriage in the nearby village....so there was no one to read the story for her and she felt very sad...that is when she decided to learn the kannada language so that in the near future she would be able to read and write on her own....
