One day, when Helen was playing with her new doll which Miss Sullivan had brought form Perkins institute as a gift for her, the latter put the former’s rag doll into her lap and spelled "d-o-l-l" and tried to make her understand that "d-o-l-l" applied to both, it made Helen angry.

Earlier that day, they had differences and argument over the words "m-u-g" and "w-a-t-e-r." Helen thought there was no difference between the two words. When Miss Sullivan again tried to teach Helen the difference between the words "m-u-g" and "w-a-t-e-r", became impatient and threw the doll on the floor. It was broken into pieces.

After Miss Sullivan successfully taught Helen the difference between words "m-u-g" and "w-a-t-e-r" by putting her hand under the flowing water from the spout, Helen realized her mistake. As she entered the door, she picked up the pieces of the broken doll and tried to put them together. Her eyes were filled with tears. She felt repentant and sorry.

One day, Helen was playing with new doll which was given by the miss Sullivan, which the Sullivan took the doll and placed on the lap of Helen also, spilt"d-o-l-l"and tried to make Helen understand that"d-o-l-l"applied to both. Earlier in the day they had a tussle over the words"m-u-g"and "w-a-t-e-r". Miss Sullivan had tried to impress it upon her that "m-u-g" is mug and that"w-a-t-e-r" is water, but Helen persisted in confounding the two. In despair she had dropped the subject for the time, only to renew it at the first opportunity. She became impatient at her repeated atoms and seizing the new doll, she dashed it up on the floor. Helen was keenly delighted when she felt the fragments of the broken doll at her feet. Neither sorrow no regret followed her passionate outburst. Helen had not loved the doll. In the still, dark world in which she lived there was no strong sentiment or tenderness. She felt her teacher sleep the fragments to one side of the hearth, and she had a sense of satisfaction that the cause of her discomfort was removed. Miss Sullivan brought hat for her.
