What did ‘being free’ mean to Mandela as a boy and a friend? (Nelson Mandela-Long Walk To Freedom) (CBSE Class-10)
Answers
'Being free' to Mandela as a young boy meant being able to run in the fields, to swim in the clear stream that flowed nearby, to roast mealies under the sun and all that could bring him joy, hapiness and comfort. Later on, as a student, he realized that he wanted freedom only for himself, to be able to go anywhere on his own and to make decisions himself, read and do whatever he pleased. As a grown man, he realized that being free meant freedom from all kinds of trouble, free to be able to mingle with others despite the skin colour, marrying and having a family and earning his keep.
