Gerrard tricked the intruder into believing that they had to leave the house right away. Then he opened the door and let the intruder look outside. While the intruder was peeping out of the door, Gerrard pushed him. The push landed the intruder in the cupboard and the revolver out of the intruder's hand. Gerrard then locked up the intruder in the cupboard, answered the phone and asked someone to send the sergeant over to his house immediately.
