Helen called examinations as 'the chief bugbears of my college life.'
She referred to examinations in this manner because she felt very nervous, stressed and discouraged before examinations. This was because preparation for the examinations involved rote learning of difficult formula and dates. During the examination, she felt that her memory failed her and the hours spent cramming detailed information were wasted as she was unable to recall much of what she had learnt. She panicked a lot and had trouble in recalling the necessary information required to answer the questions asked in the question paper.
