King Minos was a descendant of Zeus and Europe. Minos succeeded Asterios, king of Crete and husband of Europe, as one of the most powerful kings on the island.
The Kingdom of Minos included all the cities of Crete, of which the most important were the Knossos and the Paestos. It grew into a major sea power with significant cultural and economic progress.
According to legend, Talos was the son of Cris and the father of Paestos, or Minos' brother. His job was to guard the island with his brass plates containing the rules, which ensured that they were obeyed. He protected Crete from invading armies by throwing stones at hostile ships or setting them on fire with his burning body of brass.
