1. Liberalism is derived from latin word 'liber' means free. It meant differently to different people.

2. For the new middle class, it stood for freedom of aam individual and equality before law.

3. Politically, it emphasized on govt by consent. There was to be an end to autocracy and clerical priveleges.

4. Economically it stood for freedom of markets and inviolability of private property and state imposed restrictions on movement of goods.

5. Since the French revolution, liberalism stood for the end of autocracy and clerical priveleges, a constitution and govt through parliament.
