1857 mutiny was a huge wakeup call to the empire and a variety of changes happened in India that kept another mutiny from happening in a few decades until the Royal Indian Navy mutiny of 1946. 

1. Elimination of the Royals

During the Indian Rebellion of 1857, the mutiny in Meerut was just the trigger. The actual war was fought by the royals such as Tatya Tope and Rani Laxmibai of Jhansi all gathered under the last of the Mughals. After the 1857 rebellion, all those royals "disloyal" to the Empire were eliminated. The last of the Mughal kings had a sorry death in Burma. Tatya Tope and Rani Laxmibai were all dead. Without the royals to fight for, there was not enough incentives for the Indian armed forces to mutiny.

2. Reorganization of the Armed Forces

After the mutiny, groups thought of being "disloyal" to the British were removed from the army. One of those is the Bengali regiments. Bengalis were systematically targeted by the empire by first removing them from army and later moving the India's national capital away from Calcutta.

In their place came martial classes known for fierce loyalty - Gurkhas and Sikhs. At one point most of Indian army was comprised of just these two groups. A Gurkhasoldier is extremely dependable and would give up the life for whatever flag he is fighting under. Same could be said of the Sikh warriors. Britain also brought a lot of British officers to increase the ratio of the British soldiers.
