The little girl visualized her grandmother when she lit the last match. She saw "the delicious roast goose" and "the magnificent Christmas tree." She found her grandmother to be more beautiful and tall. She asked her grandmother to take with her because the little girl didn't want to live in the harsh world where she was even deprived of the basic amenities. Also, she was afraid of returning back to the home where her father would scold and beat her for not selling any matchbox. She wanted to go away from this harsh world to the world where her grandmother was. These visions gave the little girl all the happiness and warmth which she had never got in her life.
