The writer was Mahadevi Varma. She saw a squirrel fell down from the tree on her veranda. She found that two crows were poking at the squirrel. She took the squirrel in her hand and saw the squirrel crying in pain. She immediately took it inside.

And cleaned the blood and injury and applied ointment. Then she took cotton wool and dip in a cup to milk in order to feed the squirrel. When she tried to feed milk, the squirrel could not open the mouth as it is in immense pain. After some time she somehow managed to give the squirrel a drop of water. She named the squirrel Gillu.
