What is the difference between Indian and French education?
Quite a lot
France has a far more advanced and robust education system compared to India.
France follows K-12 system everywhere in France.
Kindergarten = Ecole maternelle
Primary = Ecole primaire ( 1st to 5th class )
Middle School = Collège ( 6h to 9th >> the French uses inverse counting 6eme, 5eme, 4eme, 3eme ). After 9th schoolkids take an exam called Brevet.
Lycée ( Higher Secondary School >> three years ) 10th to 12th. After 12th schoolkids take Baccalauréat exam. This Baccalauréat exam is centralised and only one central board of education is there.
Students take up specialization in 11th and 12th class. There are multiple specializations
Those who are not having sufficient merit to join lycée or wish to learn a trade ( vocation ) can pursue CAP or BEP which prepares for a trade.
Post school / lycée either a student can go to university or pursue in some specific lycée for a diploma course called BTS OR pursue a university techincal diploma in IUT ( which are like the polytechnics )
Public education is free for all. Even universities are tuition free like in neighboring Germany except for few and few types of programs. But most public universities don’t charge or charge minimal fees for courses offered in French.
